Bringing K-Food to Consumers: Korean-Style Fried Chicken Comes to Supermarkets

• More than half of German consumers are interested in Korean cuisine • Mrs. Yumami introduces Korean-Style Fried Chicken, one of Korea’s most popular street food classics, as a convenience product for supermarket shoppers

Crispy, spicy, and loved around the world: Korean Fried Chicken is one of Korea’s most successful street food classics. With its new brand Mrs. Yumami, the Eat Happy Group is now bringing this international food trend to supermarkets for the first time as a convenient ready-to-enjoy product.

Mrs. Yumami Korean Style Fried Chicken features crispy, Korean-style breaded chicken pieces, marinated in authentic sauces inspired by classic Korean flavors such as Sweet & Spicy and Soy & Garlic. The product is designed for consumers who want to enjoy authentic street food in a fresh and convenient way, whether for lunch, dinner, or as a snack in between. At the same time, it serves as the flagship product of Mrs. Yumami, a Korean food concept that will gradually introduce additional authentic trend products to supermarket shelves.

“Korean cuisine is captivating more and more consumers, not only in restaurants but increasingly in everyday life. Market research shows that many consumers are open to authentic Korean convenience products. With Mrs. Yumami, we are giving them the opportunity to enjoy one of Korea’s most iconic street food classics, which arguably tastes even better cold than hot, conveniently and directly from the supermarket,” explains Dr. Johannes Steegmann, CEO of the Eat Happy Group.

Korean Cuisine Meets Growing Consumer Demand

The popularity of Mrs. Yumami is reflected in a representative survey conducted by the Eat Happy Group among 1,000 consumers. According to the findings, nearly one in two respondents (45.6%) is interested in Korean food, while 50% say they have already had some exposure to Korean cuisine. K-food ranks as the most popular aspect of Korean culture, ahead of K-pop (33.8%), K-dramas (26.1%), and Korean cosmetics (23.1%).

Awareness of Korean Fried Chicken is already remarkably high: nearly one in two consumers (49%) recognizes the dish by name, while more than four in ten respondents (42.7%) have already tried it.

Purchase intent is particularly strong: after reading a brief product description, more than three-quarters of respondents (75.5%) said they would be likely or very likely to buy Korean Fried Chicken in the future. Interest in Korean ready-to-eat meals is also high overall, with 48% of consumers stating that they can imagine purchasing such products from supermarkets in the future.

Korea’s Street Food Favorite, Now for Home and On the Go

Korean Fried Chicken is widely regarded as one of Korea’s most popular street food classics. Characterized by crispy fried chicken pieces coated in sweet, spicy, or savory sauces, it has become a favorite among consumers worldwide. Mrs. Yumami Korean Style Fried Chicken is available in two variants: Sweet & Spicy and Soy & Garlic. The range is complemented by side dishes such as Korean-style pickled radish cubes and rice. At launch, the products will be offered in Small (160 g) and Medium (260 g) sizes.

Since July 2026, Mrs. Yumami has been available at selected locations. The rollout will be gradually expanded across Germany over the coming months through Eat Happy shops and dedicated Mrs. Yumami freezer units in Munich. In addition to Germany, Mrs. Yumami will also be launched in Austria, Italy, and Poland.
